چکیده

In this paper we present an active video module that consists of a miniature video sensor, a wireless video transmitter and a pan-tilt mechanism driven by micromotors. The video module is part of a miniature mobile robot that is projected to areas of the environment to be surveyed. A single-chip CMOS video sensor and miniature brushless D.C. gearmotors are used to comply with restrictions imposed by the robotic system in terms of payload weight, volume and power consumption. Different types of actuation are analyzed for compatibility with a mesoscale robotic system. Applications of an active video module are

Design and Implementation of A Shape Shifting Rolling–Crawling–Wall-Climbing Robot

Designing an urban reconnaissance robot is highly challenging work given the nature of the terrain in which these robots are required to operate. In this work, we attempt to extend the locomotion capabilities of these robots beyond what is currently feasible. The design and unique features of our bio-inspired reconfigurable robot, called Scorpio, with rolling, crawling, and wall-climbing locomo...

Experimaental Evaluation of a Distributed Control System for Chain-type Self-reconfigurable Robots

Self-reconfigurable robots are an instance of complex systems that can autonomously rearrange their modules. Recently, there has been a great interest in using these robots in different domains such as reconnaissance, rescue missions, and space applications for their versatility, fault tolerance, low cost of reproducibility, and efficiency in rough terrains. Because of their distributed nature,...

Reconnectable joints for self-reconfigurable robots

Self-reconfigurable robots are modular robots that can dynamically and intelligently reconfigure their shape and size to accomplish difficult missions. Such capability is highly desirable in tasks such as fire fighting, urban search and rescue after an earthquake, and battlefield reconnaissance, where robots must confront unexpected situations and obstacles and perform tasks that are difficult ...

Cyclops: Miniature Robotic Reconnaissance System

Miniature mobile robots are desirable for military applications because of their ability to function covertly in highly constrained environments. However, work on such tiny robotic systems has been hampered by the difficulty of packaging locomotion, sensing, computing and power subsystems into diminutive spaces. This paper presents the design and initial prototype of a miniature mobile robot de...

Challenges for deploying man-portable robots into hostile environments

The Man Portable Robotic System (MPRS) project objective was to build and deliver hardened robotic systems to the U.S. Army’s 10th Mountain Division in Fort Drum, New York. The systems, specifically designed for tunnel and sewer reconnaissance, were equipped with visual and audio sensors that allowed the Army engineers to detect trip wires and booby traps before personnel entered a potentially ...
